UPDATE: POLICE DEPARTMENT DISTRIBUTES 120 TURKEYS DONATED BY WALMART IN JUST OVER AN HOUR

UPDATE: 12/17/2:20 p.m.

The Crookston Police Department says they received well over 120 calls for the free turkeys in just over an hour and all the turkeys that were donated by the Crookston Walmart have been accounted for.

Those who were able to get a turkey can pick them up at the Crookston Police Department beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, December 18 at 321 W Robert St.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Crookston Police Department will be giving out 120 free turkeys for Christmas beginning this afternoon. The turkeys were donated by the Crookston Walmart, explained Officer Don Rasicot. “I’m really, really excited about this,” said Rasicot. “I received a call from Store Manager Dave Olson at the Crookston Walmart, and he asked me – Don, can you help me give away 120 turkeys. He said he’d like to do the distribution through the police department. What we’ve set up here is if you or your family would like a free frozen turkey, and they vary in size. These are very large, nice, delicious turkeys. You need to contact me at the police department. And if you can’t speak to me directly, you’ll need to leave me your name, number, and address. And I will get back with you, and we will get you a free turkey before Christmas season.”

Those who would like a turkey are asked to call Officer Rasicot at the police department during business hours Monday through Friday.  Because calls are routed through the Polk County Sheriff’s Office during the evenings, and on weekends, people should not call about turkeys during those times. “Because the weekend is coming up, this is what we’ve set up,” explained Rasicot. “You can contact me today, which is Thursday, and tomorrow, which is Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Crookston Police Department, which is 218-281-3111. Again, if you can’t speak to me directly if I’m out on a call or busy, leave me your name, phone number, and address. I will get back to you and let you know when you can come to get your turkey. Again, this is going to be distributed through the police department and the police department only. You can contact me Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We will not be taking any calls over the weekend for turkeys. So, after Friday at 4:30 p.m., I will start taking calls on Monday after 8 a.m.”

Rasicot added that turkeys will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. “This going to be a first-come, first-serve basis, and when the turkeys are gone, they’re gone,” said Rasicot. “Again, if you’re looking for a nice, juicy, plump frozen turkey donated by the goodness and graciousness of Walmart here in Crookston through the police department, you contact me, Officer Don Rasicot, 218-281-3111, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. And I’ll make sure you get yourself a turkey on a first-come, first-serve basis. And you will not be able to pick them up at Walmart. They will be at the police department. I will be personally giving them their turkey.”
