CROOKSTON POOL NEEDS OVER $1.1 MILLION IN IMPROVEMENTS

The Crookston City Council met on Monday evening and received an update on the Crookston Community Pool after a water main break forced the closure of the pool.

The water main break dumped three to four feet of water into the basement of the pool, but more problems have popped up. “That has been fixed,” said Crookston City Administrator Corky Reynolds. “During the time of the shutdown, fixing, and relieving the water out of the pool, we have discovered that we have a couple of heat generators that heat the water in the pool and the air at the pool, those are deficient and malfunctioning.”

The repairs to the heat generators will be around $40,000.  One is from the 1970’s and the other is from 2014.  Reynolds said they will have to look at some decisions about the pool with an estimate of over $1 million dollars of costs to fix up the pool to where it should be. “We have a facility study that tells us there would be close to $1 million in repairs that really ought to be done to bring this facility to where it should be,” said Reynolds. “We have moisture seepage from the inside going out, and we have mechanical systems that need to be addressed so we are taking a good hard look with our Parks and Rec Director and our financial director and what would this cost us and how would we finance that.  We are taking an overall look at that now.”

The pool lost $164,000 in 2021 and lost $100,000 in 2022.
