CROOKSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY MOVES ITS IRREPLACEABLES TO SAFER LOCATION

The Crookston Public Library has been making moves to protect their valued books, CDs, and microfilms from the flooding from the Red Lake River, especially their most preserved and irreplaceable items. RJ Zavoral & Sons, Inc. is moving dirt and sandbags to build dikes to protect the building and its resources from the river’s rising waters.

Inside the library, the workers are moving their irreplaceable items such as their microfilms and plat books to separate containers and safer parts of the library in case the dikes cannot contain the water. “We’ve been very careful about deciding how we’re going to go forward, and we went with what’s first priority. We’ve been in contact with our Director, Chris Boike, and we’re following directions from her,” said Crookston Public Library employee Paula Ous. “Our Regional Office in Moorhead knows about this, so everybody’s in on the decision-making happening here.”

They currently have no plans to move any of the other books or other items they have but things might change with the rising water.
