CROOKSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY NOW OFFERING A NEW BOOK CLUB “READING BY THE RED”

The Crookston Public Library is now offering a new book club called “Reading by the Red.” The club will meet in the newly renovated room at the library, called the River Room, where you’ll have a great view of the Red River.

Library Associate Corene Everett helped start the new club and says they’re still trying to get people more involved with it. “We don’t have a core group that currently meets right now, and we’re trying to get people interested,” said Everett. “Anyone who likes to read and would like to discuss a variety of books while eating snacks would be welcomed into this group.”

The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, with the next meeting taking place in November on November 23.

Everett says suggestions for books to review are encouraged, and she talked a bit about the library’s different services for those interested in joining the club. “I always welcome suggestions, but since we are a new club right now, I’m choosing books that people have told me are very interesting,” said Everett. “We also have our books available in paper as well as eBook and Audiobook format if people want to listen, which is a very popular option. So, we try and choose books where we can make sure everyone can get a copy.”

If you’re interested in joining the club and attending the November meeting, Everett talked about the book the group will be reviewing. “The one will be reviewing in November is of local interest,” said Everett. “I wanted to discuss as a group the book If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home by Now: Why We Traded The Commuting Life For A Little House On The Prairie. This is a memoir written by a local author from Red Lake Falls who lived on the East Coast. He wrote an article calling Red Lake County the ugliest place in America and then moved here from the East Coast and wrote a book about it, so I thought it would be fun to discuss.”

Everett is hoping that as groups start getting together more, people in Crookston can find a way to join a group in the community and get involved. She says anyone looking to meet some friends and discuss great literature should consider joining the club.
