The Crookston Public Library invites the community to a diverse lineup of events this May, ranging from intergalactic celebrations for youth to profound author visits and opportunities for community advocacy.
May the 4th Be With You: Star Wars Celebration
The month kicks off in a galaxy far, far away on Monday, May 4, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Attendees of all ages are invited to “Master the Force” during our Star Wars-inspired celebration. Whether you’re a wise Jedi Master, a Stormtrooper, or a Wookiee, the afternoon will be packed with intergalactic fun, including:
- Creative Crafts to help you build your own galaxy.
- Action-Packed Games and a library-wide Scavenger Hunt.
- Galactic Prizes for the boldest adventurers.
- Costumes are highly encouraged as we celebrate the saga in style!
Friends of the Library Open House
On Tuesday, May 12, from 5-7 p.m. the library will host an Open House for those interested in joining or learning more about the Crookston Public Library’s Friends of the Library. Meet current members, as well as library director Chris Boike, and discover how you can get involved and support your public library. Refreshments will be served.
“Dear Jacob” Author Visit with Patty Wetterling & Joy Baker
Following the Open House on Tuesday, May 12, the library will host a deeply moving program at 7 p.m. that evening in the River Room. Authors Patty Wetterling and Joy Baker will discuss their memoir, Dear Jacob: A Mother’s Journey of Hope.
For thirty years, the disappearance of Jacob Wetterling haunted Minnesota and transformed the nation. Patty Wetterling will share the intimate account of her decades-long search and the resilience of a mother’s love. She is joined by Joy Baker, the blogger whose independent research helped lead to the breakthrough in the case. A book signing will follow the presentation, and books will be available for purchase. Admission is free, thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
