The Crookston Pirate Softball team looks to win their second game in a row against the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons this afternoon. The game starts at 4:30 PM from Fertile, and we will join the game after Pirate Baseball on KROX Radio.
FIRST INNING-
The Pirates got off to a great start in the first inning with three straight hits, capped off by a run scoring on a throwing error off a single from Rilynn Aubol, putting the Pirates up 1-09, with runners on second and third and nobody out. The next two outs would be productive, as Brynna Kopecky hit a sacrifice fly and Peyton Demerais hit an RBI groundout, giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead. After a Bruggeman single, a strikeout ended the inning.
The Falcons got a runner on base in the bottom of the inning on a two-base error, and then back-to-back wild pitches scored the run. Two quick outs would follow, making it 3-1 Pirates after an inning.
SECOND INNING-
With one out in the second, Brylee Darco ripped a double to left field, and would then score on a two-base error, giving the Pirates a 4-1 lead that would stick at the end of the frame.
The Falcons got the leadoff runner on an error, and after a force play, another error put two runners in scoring position with one out. However, Ally Wagner shut things down, getting back-to-back strikeouts to end the frame, keeping it at 4-1.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston was set down in order in the top of the third, ending with a diving catch from Madison Stueness.
Fertile-Beltrami got a leadoff single from Kora Benson in the third, but three straight force plays to second would end the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
After two quick outs, an error kept the Pirates alive in the top of the fourth. However, a great catch in right field would end the inning with no damage.
The Falcons were set down in order in the bottom of the fourth on a strikeout and two popouts.
FIFTH INNING-
In the fifth, Shyuh Burnette led off with a single, but was thrown out trying to take second base. Aubol followed with a triple, and Brynna Kopecky recorded her second RBI with a double, making it 5-1 Pirates. Peyton Demerais followed with an RBI single to make it 6-1, and then an error scored Demerais, giving the Pirates a 7-1 lead. A caught stealing and a popout would end the inning with the Pirates up six.
In the bottom of the inning, the Fertile-Beltrami bats got going. A leadoff walk followed by a hit that caused a rundown put a runner on first with one away. After a strikeout, Aubryn Johnson would deliver an RBI double to make it 7-2. Johnson would then score on an error, and the lead would be 7-3 Pirates headed into the sixth.
SIXTH INNING-
With one out in the sixth, a single and a hit-by-pitch put two runners on. A groundout moved the runners up, and Kopecky drove in one with a single, her third RBI, making it 8-4 Pirates. A groundout would end the inning with the Pirates just getting one.
In the bottom of the sixth, The Falcons batted around. A leadoff single was followed by an RBI double from Madison Stueness, cutting g the lead to 8-4. After a walk, a lineout and force play to third got the Pirates two outs. A Benson single loaded the bases, and then back-to-back bases-loaded walks cut the lead in half, making it 8-6 before a flyout ended the inning, leaving the bags full.
SEVENTH INNING-
With two outs in the seventh, the Pirates got a base hit from Wagner. She moved to second on a wild pitch, and Lily Cornelie ripped a ball, but was robbed on a second diving catch by Stueness, keeping the score at 8-6 Pirates.
It was all Falcons in the seventh. Natalie Whitcomb singled, as did Stueness to put two on. Gracee Hendrickson then doubled in a run to make it 8-7, and finally Evelyn Lehmann would be the hero, delivering a walkoff two-run single to give the Falcons a 9-8 comeback victory.
Crookston falls to 1-5, while Fertile-Beltrami improves to 1-7.
