Crookston Public Library to host several fall events

The Crookston Public Library is kicking off a busy fall with events for all ages, including author visits, woodcarving events and more.

A hands-on learning activity is scheduled at the Crookston Library on Monday, September 15 at 6 p.m., offering youth ages 5-13 a chance to learn about computer programming, as well as an opportunity for parents and caregivers to explore the many educational resources the library offers. This is one of several programs for youth held throughout the month; others include weekly Storytime (Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.) for youth ages 3-6 and a weekly Baby Bounce (Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.) for youth ages 0-3.

The library will participate in the Great North Star Read Together, which invites Minnesotans to gather at libraries across the state to show support for libraries and the vital role they play in our communities. Attendees can participate in the read-in on Saturday, September 20 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m., which will include a presentation highlighting the services and resources community members may not be aware of, an open mic session and refreshments. The Great North Star Read Together is a collaborative effort of library supporters from the Minnesota Library Association, CRPLSA, the Multicounty Multitype Library Systems, Minitex, MELSA, and ITEM.

Join the Crookston Public Library on Tuesday, September 23 at 6 p.m. for entertaining stories and learn from woodcarver and storyteller Jerry Ness. Ness will share how he creates hand-carved figures as well as the stories which inspire his art. The tour is offered free-of-charge thanks in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

The library’s Books & Brews Book Club will meet at Drafts’ Sports Bar and Grill on Tuesday, September 23. The group will meet at 6 p.m. to discuss Fahrenheit 451. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Library. Participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All adults are welcome and no registration is required.

All programs are open to the public and are offered free-of-charge. The Crookston Public Library is located at 110 N. Ash St. A full calendar of events can be found at larl.org/events.
