The Crookston High School is currently searching for a new Concessions Stand Manager and is reaching out to the community to have someone take this important job for the 2022-23 School Year.
The Concessions Stand Manager oversees running and managing all concessions stands for all home school sporting events starting this fall and throughout the school year. The events include home games for volleyball, basketball, wrestling matches, school dances, tournaments, and football games at the University of Minnesota Crookston field. The only home sport that the manager will not have to cover is hockey at the Crookston Sports Center, as that is covered by the concessions team run by the Blue Line Club. “For the games here in our gym, you would have total control of the concessions. It would be run by the independent person, so they would make all of the purchasing decisions, they would stock it, and we have the machinery, like the popcorn machines, the refrigerators for all the waters and pops for them to use,” Crookston School District Business Manager Laura Lyczewski explained. “They would decide prices. It’s an opportunity for someone if they like to work nights, to make some extra money.” The manager would begin working at the first home game of the Fall Sports season, which is a home volleyball game on Thursday, September 1, in the Crookston High School gymnasium. The Concessions Manager is free to decide the prices and menu of items that they sell, as well as be in charge of paying for all of their own purchased items and sales tax and have to pay the salaries of other workers they hire to assist them in running the stands. Any sales made at the concessions are free to be used by the manager to pay for the concessions, fellow workers’ salaries, and their own.
The position is an independent contractor, and the applicant will need to submit a proposal of why they are qualified for the job to the school district and have a certificate of insurance for liability purposes. Lyczewski also noted that the position is not under the school’s insurance policy as they are providing a service to the school as an outside vendor, which is why they are requesting the certificate of liability insurance. It is also recommended (though not required) that they receive a food service license and have good dependability and customer service skills to be successful at the job. “When people come, they’re coming to a game, and they’re hungry, so we want them to be dependable that someone will be there, and I guess friendly is another, because good customer service is always a great trait to have,” said Lyczweski. “If you’re here and dependable and offering the products they need, and you’re doing good customer service. It will also help them make it a more profitable venture.”
To apply for the job or have questions about it, you can call Crookston Activities Director Nate Lubarski at 218-281-2144 ext. 2205 or natelubarski@isd593.org. The school is requesting the proposal and insurance certificate be submitted to the school by Friday, August 12.
