CROOKSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT OLSON’S COMMUNITY UPDATE

Crookston Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Olson has released a community update for the month of March. The update is below:

With the snow and ice melting away into spring, the Crookston Public School Superintendent, Jeremy Olson, had many accomplishments from the 2022 Winter.

Preschool

A few years ago, Crookston Public Schools set out to lead the way in Preschool education and, more recently, to collaborate with the City of Crookston to bring in a childcare center. We understand that one of the best ways to contribute to the economic vitality of our community is to provide outstanding support to the kids and families of our community. Crookston Public Schools Preschool is finishing up this year with the highest enrollment we have seen so far with 106 preschool students. We have added teachers and staff to meet these growing needs as we strive to better prepare students for success in Kindergarten. We are also working with a third-party vendor to bring a Childcare Center online at Washington Elementary School in April after a very long process with the state.

Student Success

Crookston Public Schools has a lot to be excited about this year. Our students have been doing several outstanding things during the past month. Let’s celebrate their successes!

We are all proud of our Girls Basketball and Hockey Teams for the tremendous seasons that they have had. The amount of Pirate Pride that was demonstrated in the final games of these seasons was outstanding. The last Hockey game in East Grand Forks vs. Warroad was an outstanding demonstration of what Pirate Pride should look like as the community and students came out to support their team. We also got to glimpse this pride at the basketball game in Detroit Lakes versus Fergus Falls. Seeing this level of support for our kids was an outstanding experience and made me proud to be a part of Crookston.

Our FFA Program continues to march on as two CHS students were recognized in the top three at the state competition. Clay Hanson placed in the top 3 for a Work-Based Learning Project in the Fiber/Oil Crop Production category. Libby Salentine was also recognized in the top three in the state for her Work-Based Learning project in the category of Agricultural Education. Congratulations to Clay and Libby for this honor and for putting Crookston on the map in FFA.

Crookston Wrestling sent six students to state: Carter Coauette, Hunter Knutson, Evin Trudeau, Ethan Bowman, Gavyn Hlucny, and Ethan Boll. Both Gavyn Hlucny and Ethan Boll were awarded medals at state, with Ethan Boll achieving the state champion title!

The CHS Speech Team also brought back some hardware, with Emily Balboa taking 5th place in Dramatic Interpretation and Zara Baig placing 1st in Humorous Interpretation. Congratulations to CHS Speech and to Zara and Emily for your accomplishments!

These are just a few of the many accomplishments by our students at Crookston Public Schools. Let’s continue to keep up these successes and continue to cheer on our students as they compete athletically and academically.
