The Crookston Reds ended the regular season with their second-straight loss despite a ninth-inning rally against the Dilworth Raildogs in a 6-5 loss in 10 innings in a Red River Amateur Baseball League game and regular-season finale played at Bob Marshall Field in Dilworth.
Crookston started quickly taking a lead in the first inning. Will Zimmerman singled to open the game before stealing both second and third base. Noah Zimmerman drove a sacrifice fly to center field plating Will Zimmerman giving the Reds a 1-0 lead. Jackson Seibel was dominant on the pitcher’s mound for Crookston protecting the 1-0 lead while not allowing a run through the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Dilworth took the lead. Back-to-back walks followed by a single plated the tying run before Connor Robley hit a single scoring Andrew Herian and giving the Raildogs a 2-1 lead. Following a walk to load the bases, the Reds made a pitching change, but Dilworth only continued to add to their new-found lead. Michael Hanson connected on a two-out, bases-clearing double to bust the game open putting the hosts ahead 5-1. Crookston rallied back for one run in the eighth inning. Noah Zimmerman started the inning with a single. A walk issued to Bailey Schmitz put runners on first and second base before Lars Brevik doubled allowing Zimmerman to score from second base cutting the deficit to 5-2. The Reds continued their comeback in the ninth inning. Mikey Hajostek walked to start the inning before Alex LaFrance was hit by a pitch bringing the tying run to the plate with nobody out. Will Zimmerman walked to load the bases before Noah Zimmerman hit a sacrifice fly to move all three runners up one base including Mikey Hajostek to home plate. Bailey Schmitz completed the comeback with a two-run single tying the game at 5-5. Blake Kawlewski delivered a clean ninth inning on the mound to force extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth inning, the Raildogs used a walk to get the winning run on base. A passed ball moved the runner into scoring position before Andrew Herian hit the game-winning single to secure the 6-5 walk-off win.
The Reds fall to 18-15 overall and 6-6 in Red River Amateur League play. Crookston starts its postseason on Saturday in Ada with a rematch against Dilworth at 4:00 p.m. to open the Red River Amateur Baseball League Tournament at Tony Sipe Field.
