CROOKSTON REDS SPLIT A DOUBLE-DIP

The Crookston Reds’ dropped their opening game of the weekend 13-6 to the Marble Mallards before bouncing back with a 6-1 win over the Warroad Muskies in two non-League games played at Tony Stukel Field in Warroad.

Game 1 –
The Marble Mallards batted around the line-up in the bottom of the first inning without picking up a hit. The Mallards loaded the bases with two walks and an infield error before four more walks plated the first four runs of the game for Marble. Two singles with two outs in the inning concluded the scoring with the Mallards taking a 6-0 lead. The Reds took one run back in the top of the second inning with Rob Silvers doubling before Blake Karas drove a sacrifice fly into right field to cut the deficit to 6-1. Crookston continued its comeback bid with three more runs in the third inning. Will Zimmerman was hit by a pitch to start the inning before Noah Zimmerman drove Will home with a double. Bailey Schmitz hit a single to put runners on the corners before Rob Silvers hit a double to left-center field plating the second and third runs of the inning while cutting Marble’s lead down to 6-4. The Mallards would scrape two runs back in the bottom of the third inning. Runners reached on an error and walk before Lara Ojose hit a two-rbi single to give Marble an 8-4 lead. The Mallards added four more runs in the fourth inning. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases to start the inning before a sacrifice fly and single plated two more runs for Marble. Another single and an error plated the final two runs of the inning with the Mallards taking a 12-4 lead. Crookston scraped two runs back in the fifth inning. Back to back errors at third base started the innings. Taylor Kenfield drove home Noah Zimmerman with a single before a wild pitch plated Bailey Schmitz closing the gap to 13-6. Marble added one final run on a groundout to secure the 13-6 win.

Game 2 –
Warroad struck first with a run in the first inning with Beau Wilmer reaching with a single before scoring on an error at shortstop giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Sean Minder was dialed in the rest of the game as the Reds’ starting pitcher not allowing another run and just one hit after the first inning. The Reds took the lead for good in the top of the second inning. Hits from Blake Karas and Blake Kawlewski put runners on first and second base before Jackson Seibel drove in Karas with a single. With one out in the inning, Mikey Hajostek reached on a fielder’s choice while Kawlewski scored to give the Reds a 2-1 lead. Crookston added three more runs in the fourth inning. A fielder’s choice and single put two runners on base before Will Zimmerman blasted a home run into centerfield giving the Reds a 5-1 lead. Crookston added one final run with Noah Zimmerman plating Will Zimmerman with an RBI single to close out the scoring in the 6-1 win.
