Crookston Safety Town to be held Jun 2-5, registration ends April 24

Crookston’s Annual Safety Town will be held from Tuesday, June 2, to Friday, June 5, at the Washington School gymnasium. Safety Town is for Crookston kids who will complete kindergarten this year. There are only 40 spots available, and registration ends on April 24.

Safety Town is a comprehensive safety education program, coordinated again this year by Megan Parenteau and Stacy Olson. “We have many speakers who come in and present to the children on different safety topics,” said Parenteau. “The police department helps us out, the firefighters, lots and lots of entities help with the safety topics that are presented.”

The program covers a wide variety of important safety topics. “Simple things that we think about every day. Home safety, bicycle safety, safely walking the street, and remembering to buckle your seatbelt when you ride in a car,” said Pareenteau. “And then we go into some things like farm safety because we live in a rural community, so lots of kids are around tractors and farm equipment. We have a speaker from Valley Plains Equipment who comes in to speak with the participants about tractor safety and related topics.”
Other safety topics will be animal safety, playground safety, how and when to dial 911, and more.

The program runs Tuesday through Friday, June 2nd through the 5th, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:35 a.m. “All children who completed kindergarten in 2026 would be eligible to participate, and we do have a maximum of 40 participants,” said Parenteau. “As of right now, we’re sitting right around 25 participants, so we do have spots still available for the program.”

The cost of the program is $29. “It’s reasonable for kids to attend a four-day program like that. They get a t-shirt for participating in the program. We do a little graduation at the end of the week, which is always fun for the kids as well,” added Parenteau. “We wouldn’t be able to make it possible without our speakers and, of course, our donors. So we have a lot of wonderful donors who help make the program possible, both financially and otherwise. So it wouldn’t be a success without all of the different moving parts that we have.”

Brochures were sent home with all Kindergartners at Highland, Cathedral, and Our Saviors. If your kid didn’t bring a brochure home, the information and registration form is below.
