The Crookston School Board met on Monday morning for a special meeting in the District Office Conference Room at the Crookston High School.
MAIN AGENDA
The first item on the agenda was to approve a resolution canvassing the returns of the November 8 election to the School District General Election. Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, Marilyn Wahouske said the board had 10 days to certify the election’s results. The agenda also included approving a resolution authorizing the issuance of certificates of the election and directing the school district clerk to perform other election-related duties. The board approved both motions unanimously.
The board then made a resolution to change the multi-use athletic complex referendum question amount up to $4,965,000. Interim Superintendent Dave Kuehn explained that they wished to round the amount out for the ballot when they hold the referendum on February 14, 2023. “We thought we could pick a number, and the number we got was the project cost, which was $4,963,100. When it comes to a referendum and bond issue amount, you have to pick a number that’s in a $5,000 increment,” Interim Superintendent Dave Kuehn explained. “Basically, our $963,000 is now $4,965,000, so we had to round the number up that was more of a normal number in terms of what we had.” The board approved the change unanimously.
The final item the board discussed was a motion to accept the resignation letter from School Board Member Adrianne Winger and to appoint the board clerk to replace Winger. The board thanked Winger for her time serving on the board and wished her luck in teaching kindergarten at Washington Elementary School. With the acceptance of her retirement, Chairperson Frank Fee then opened the board up to make nominations for an interim board clerk position to take the position until the vote on board positions in January 2023. Board member Tim Dufault nominated fellow board member Patty Dillabough for the position, while Frank Fee nominated Mike Theis. The board opened up to a vote for the position, and Adrianne was the tiebreaker vote, which went to Mike Theis, winning him the position with a 2-1 vote in his favor.
Theis said it was an honor. “I’m pleased and honored at the fact that I was chosen to be the interim, and I’ll be running for the position in the future as well,” said Theis. “I’m looking forward to working with the current school board as well as the new member that’ll be coming on in January, so I’m looking forward to that to try and do what is best for our students and our families in the Crookston School District.” The board approved both motions unanimously.
The Crookston School Board will next meet on Monday, November 28, in the Crookston High School Choir/Orchestra Room.
