Crookston School Board to meet Monday, August 26

The Crookston School Board will meet on Monday, August 26, at 5:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Choir/Orchestra room.

The consent agenda is full of hirings and a couple of resignations. The board will be asked to approve the resignation of Kent Erickson as Crookston High School custodian, Brad Hubred as Middle School Science teacher, Mariah Christian and Gabriela Ostgaard as paraprofessionals at the high school, and Emily Meyer as Success Coach at the high school.

The board will be asked to approve a contract with the paraprofessionals for the 2024-27 school years. 

The board will be asked to approve the following hires – Brittany Rassett as a German teacher, Kira Johnson as a Middle School Science teacher, Marianne Isaacs, and Kabie Weisert as full-time substitute teachers. Also Mark Ecklund and Shannon Zavala as kitchen helpers at the high school, Diane Seddon as head cook at the high school, and changing Wanda Proulx from a kitchen helper to assistant cook. The board will also be asked to approve Kari Sinks and Lori Wagner as paraprofessionals at Highland School, Barb Holweger as an Instructional Assistant at Highland, a chance for Sara Pester from elementary teacher to Title 1 teacher at Highland, and Paige Erickson as a paraprofessional at the high school.
The board will be asked to approve the fall coaching staff and lane advancement request. 

The board will also approve the following donations – $600 from the National FFA Foundations and $416.50 from the Crookston Eagles Auxiliary for the FFA program. $500 from HN Quality Plumbing, $100 from Widman’s Candy, $100 from Crookston Fuel Company, and $500 from the Crookston Eye Clinic for the Highland School playground. The board will be asked to approve the following donations to the Girls Golf program – $200 from Mark Jacobson, $200 from Jaclyn Martin, $200 from Jeff and Debbie Dufault, $500 from Mike and Jenny Nelson, and $500 from Gary and Lori Hoerner. The board will also be asked to accept an anonymous $10,000 donation to the Crookston High School scoreboard/athletic complex. 

The main agenda includes setting the date for the Truth-in-Taxation Hearing, approving the second reading of policies as recommended by the Minnesota School Board Association with Policy 506-Student Discipline, Policy 507-Corporal Punishment and Prone Restraint, Policy 507.5-School Resource Officers, Policy 514-Bullying Prohibition Policy. The board will also be asked to approve the Family Resource Center lease, allowing students to attend the National FFA conference in Indianapolis, Indiana October 23-26, the cell phone policy, goals and core values, the school resource officer contract, and Superintendent Randy Bergquist as the Identified official with authority for the district. 

The meeting will wrap up with reports from the principals (Chris Trostad, Matt Torgerson, Cierra Hengsleben), Kathy Stronstad of Special Services, and Superintendent Randy Bergquist. 

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 23.
