CROOKSTON SCHOOL BOARD WILL MEET TWICE ON MONDAY TO DISCUSS SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH AND JUNIOR HIGH TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.

The Crookston School Board will meet twice on Monday, January 23, for a Special meeting at 3:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School District office and inside the Crookston High School Choir/Orchestra Room at 5:00 p.m. The meetings are open to the public, with public hearings for visitors who wish to share concerns with the school board.

The Main Agenda of the Special meeting at 3:00 p.m. will be to review stakeholder input information from the Crookston Superintendent survey the board released earlier this month. It will also include the board reviewing the superintendent search timeline and process and a review and discussion of the protocol and process for the superintendent position interviews. The final items on the Agenda will be to develop the first round of interview questions, the interview schedule, and procedures, and to discuss, decide, and schedule the steps necessary for the rest of the hiring process of the next superintendent.

The regularly scheduled meeting at 5:00 p.m. will begin with a Feature Program by Ag Instructor & FFA Advisor Carolyn Pavlish on the FFA Program.

The Consent Agenda will include the approval of the minutes of the Regular and Special meetings that took place on December 12, December 19, and January 4, and all of their current bills. The Agenda will also include accepting the resignation letters of Paraprofessionals Jennifer Erdmann, Marissa Arriaga, and Maria Hammer, a letter of assignment with Dave Emanuel, and the employment of Crookston High School Custodian Mavis Braaten, Highland Paraprofessional Savannah Plante, Washington Instructional Assistant Carole Chaput, and Part-Time Bus Driver Cody Brekken. It will also include approving increased employment hours with High School Paraprofessional/ISS Aide Lori Melbye and Lane Advance Requests. The final items on the Consent Agenda will consist of the acceptance of an anonymous donation of $1,200 applied toward student lunch debt, a $500 donation from the United Way of Crookston for the CHS PATCH Program, an $820 donation from the June Shaver endowment for the Drama Department, and a $2,740 donation from the June Shaver endowment for Healthcare Scholarships.

The Main Agenda will include approving the 2023-2024 District Academic Calendar and the Winter Storm Day makeup plan. It will also include approving the 7th and 8th Grade trip proposal to Washington D.C., in the summer of 2024. The Agenda will also include a presentation and approval of the Referendum Review & Comment. The final items on the Agenda will be to approve a Johnson Controls Maintenance Contract from February 1, 2023, to January 31, 2025, a resolution directing the administration to make Recommendations for Reductions in Programs and Positions and Reasons Therefor, and the Mid-year Superintendent Evaluation Summary Report.

The board will then hear Administrative Reports from Washington School Principal Denice Oliver, Highland Elementary Principal Chris Trostad, and Crookston High School Principal Matt Torgerson about events and progress at their respective schools. Crookston Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dave Kuehn will also give a report about actions and plans for the school district.

The next School Board meeting will take place on Monday, February 27, at 5:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School Choir/Orchestra Room.
