CROOKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT MEMBERS PARTAKE IN GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY FOR THE MULTI-USE COMPLEX

Despite a gloomy and rainy Wednesday, members of the Crookston School District were all smiles at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Multi-Use Complex at Crookston High School.

The ceremony was initially scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 8, but was delayed due to rainy conditions. Ironically, Wednesday saw those same conditions. “We just wanted to get it done because we’ve already had some work done,” said Superintendent Randy Bergquist. “We’ve seen some good progress now with dry days mixed in. We could’ve postponed this again, but we just wanted to get this done.”

The event began with Superintendent Bergquist thanking everybody who contributed to the decision to construct the new facility and the construction crews who are actively making progress on the project. “We had some school board members, community members, and school district representatives there, and it was great to be out there,” said Bergquist. “Yes, it was raining, but that’s okay. The gold shovels, the hard hats, and the yellow vests. It’s been so exciting.”

Crookston High School has also begun releasing drone camera footage of the project’s progress. The Crookston Public Schools Facebook page released images of the recent progress earlier this week, which feature the outline of the football field and the earthwork that’s taken place. Click the photos below of the drone photos that were released.

Bergquist also mentioned that this project’s goal is to be completed before the first home football game in the 2024 season. “The bottom line is I want this ready to go before the first football game (or before September 1),” said Bergquist, “Fortunately, we have our first home game, the third game of the season. I want to see this move forward and hope the weather partakes further on in this venture.”

Bergquist concluded that he was pleasantly surprised with the project’s progress and how smoothly everything has been operating up to this point. The school district has yet to receive the plumbing permit from the state of Minnesota for the bathrooms and other services at the facility.

Community members can visit the area and take a tour of the construction site around the fencing areas. To stay updated on the progress and work being done on the site, visit the Crookston School District’s Facebook page or our website.
