CROOKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT JEREMY OLSON’S APRIL COMMUNICATION

Crookston School District Superintendent Jeremey Olson released an April communication regarding the end of the School year and future plans. The letter is below.

Greetings from Crookston Public Schools! As we are now well into April and May is around the corner, I wanted to update you on some of the tremendous things happening at Crookston Public Schools as we continue to move forward together.

A major topic that we hear regularly is the need for affordable and high-quality childcare. This is why we have partnered with the City of Crookston to make space available for childcare. We are hopeful that this will open up soon as we continue to collaborate with childcare provider All4learning to help bolster childcare availability for our community. Long term, we hope to see an expansion in childcare offerings as well as affordable housing to help the economic development of our community.

We are also proposing a referendum on August 9th for the construction of a multiuse facility that will meet the needs of our physical education classes, football program, soccer program, athletic practices, and track program. In addition, we are also looking to use federal funds allocated to us to build educational space for a preschool addition onto Highland School as well as a self-contained middle school at Crookston High School.

Highland Elementary School is planning an event at the May School Board Meeting to recognize the students and staff for being recognized as a top 30% elementary school in MN. We are incredibly proud of the students and staff for this accomplishment as we continue to work to provide the best education possible to our students.

New Crookston High School Sign: We are expecting to see a new sign on the side of CHS as well as the words “Home of the Pirates” across the front entrance of Crookston High School. This is expected to go up in the next few months.

Our students have also been having a host of successes which I would like to highlight to the community as we recognize these great accomplishments.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and directors of “Godspell.” The students did an amazing job and should be recognized for their hard work, dedication, and talent.

Crookston High School Speech Team: Samantha Rezac, Zara Baig, and George French are going to state! Their next competition will be in Apple Valley on April 23rd! Good luck to the Crookston High School Speech Team!

Crookston FFA received a National Chapter Award and was honored on April 24th. We need to remember that this program is only in its second year! It has been amazing to see the program grow, watch as students develop skills, and to see the success that our students are having!

Crookston Music had its Band and Choir Concert. It is always fun to see our students progressing and moving forward musically. Covid has not been kind to music programs as some of the early restrictions were very difficult to deal with. We are thankful that we can practice normally now, and it has been great to see our students get a more normal music experience this year.

Thank you to the community of Crookston for your continued support of our kids and programs. If you ever have any questions about Crookston Public Schools, please feel free to reach out to me at 218-770-8717 or email me at jeremyolson@isd593.org. Go Pirates!
