NEW UPDATE – INTERVIEW WITH CROOKSTON POLICE CHIEF PAUL BIERMAIER (Click on the play button below to listen to the interview)
Audio PlayerThe Crookston School District went into a soft lockdown this morning after students alerted officials of a possible threat at the school.
The possible threat came in the form of a video that a former student posted on social media. The video included the student holding a gun with the text “Just wait til Friday when I get a lot of rounds for my baby.”
The Crookston Police Department said there was never a direct threat to the school and the kids did the right thing by bringing their concerns forward to the school and police. “We want to make sure people know the kids did the right thing,” said Crookston Police Chief Paul Biermaier. “Anytime there is any question, we need to know about it so we can be safe and keep all the kids safe.”
The Crookston Police Department investigated the possible threat and located the suspect’s location in a small town in North Dakota and the Grand Forks County authorities were going to be talking with the kid.
The Crookston Police and Crookston School District gave the all-clear by 9:00 a.m. Some parents pulled their kids out of school even though the threat was no longer deemed a threat and school was operating as usual. KROX’s Chris Fee was in the office for 30 minutes this morning and he said things were back to “normal” and running like a normal school day.
We will have more with the Crookston Schools Superintendent Jeremy Olson and Crookston Police Cheif Paul Biermaier soon.
