The Crookston School District will host a meeting on Tuesday, June 22 to present ideas on how to spend money received from the Federal Government as part of the COVID relief money. The meeting will take place at the Crookston High School auditorium at 5:30 p.m.
Superintendent Jeremy Olson says that they will need to build a plan and spend money to be reimbursed. “It’s all federal funds that are coming through and allocation that we applied for” said Olson. “We have to spend dollars, create a plan, and then submit that for reimbursement.”
Olson will open the meeting with a presentation and says it is important the schools district spends it wisely.. “We want to make sure we really hit this out of the park, we have a one time shot to get this right, so we want to do it right” said Olson” The school will also be taking suggestions from people on how to spend the money and Olson believes people should care about what happens. “The reason people should care about this is because it is a chance for people to interact with the school district in planning a future learning recovery from COVID-19.”
The meeting is open to anyone who wants to attend. “We’re going to keep it under an hour, because I understand that people have other obligations and stuff to do” said Olson. “It’s going to be very informal in nature; it’s supposed to be conversational, there will be some presentation, but then I’m hoping for conversation after that.”
Olson is hopeful for a good turnout from the community. “As far as the turnout of people goes, it is a meeting in the summer that not a lot of people necessarily want to go to, but I think it’s a good opportunity for the school district and the public to interact,” said Olson. “I just really want the chance to get in the same room as some of the community and get some input”.
The public is invited to attend the meeting on Tuesday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Crookston High School auditorium.
