CROOKSTON SOFTBALL BEATS PELICAN RAPIDS FOR 2ND WIN IN A ROW

The Crookston Pirate Softball team had a huge seventh inning and scored five runs to break open a close game to beat the Pelican Rapids Vikings 10-4 in Pelican Rapids. 

FIRST INNING
Crookston loaded the bases with two out with walks to Maddi Bruggeman, Reese Swanson, and Kambelle Frieze, but the next batter grounded out.
Pelican Rapids reached on an error with one out and scored a run on another error for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
Cassie Solheim was hit by a pitch to start the second inning. Solheim stole second, third, and home to tie the game at 1-1. Carley Knutson walked, stole second base, and scored on a Bruggeman double for a 2-1 lead.
Pelican Rapids was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

THIRD INNING
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Leah Johanneck walked. The next batter was retired.
The first Pelican Rapids batter reached on an error before the next three batters were retired, and Crookston took a 2-1 lead into the fourth inning.

FOURTH INNING
Crookston’s first two batters grounded out and struck out before Emily Bowman singled and advanced to second on an error. She stole second and stole home for a 3-1 lead.
Pelican Rapids’ leadoff batter was hit by a pitch and stole second base before a single scored a run to bring the Vikings within a 3-2 deficit.

FIFTH INNING –
Crookston’s Frieje walked with one out before the next two batters were retired.

Pelican Rapids leadoff batter walked, and the next batter reached on an error, and both runners scored on back-to-back singles for a 4-3 Viking lead.

SIXTH INNING – 
Crookston answered in the sixth inning when Knutson was hit by a pitch, and Dani Kresl walked. Both Pirates stole bases and scored to give Crookston a 5-4 lead.
Pelican Rapids’ leadoff batter popped out to second base. The next batter singled before a strikeout. The Vikings tried to score a run, but the Pirates got the out to keep the score 5-4.

SEVENTH INNING – 
Crookston Swanson led off the inning with a walk, Frieje singled in a run, Johanneck walked, Solheim singled in a run, Knutson singled in a run, and Kresl singled in another run for a 9-4 lead. Another run scored on a sacrifice fly for a 10-4 lead.
Pelican Rapids started the bottom of the inning with a single, but the next three batters were retired, and Crookston won the game 10-4.

Crookston improves to 2-9 on the season.
