CROOKSTON SWIMMERS DROP DUAL WITH FOSSTON-BAGLEY

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team struggled through some fatigue in a 106-53 loss against Fosston-Bagley in a Section 8A dual hosted at the Crookston Community Pool.

Coming off of a three-meet week, the Pirates tinkered around with their line-up as coach Marley Melbye tried to help her swimmers identify potential second events for her small roster as they begin to look ahead to Section Meets. Madison Hoiland didn’t compete in her usual 50-Meter freestyle race but did still manage a first-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:28.12. Hoialnd opted to compete in the 200-meter IM and finished in second-place with a time of 3:00.76. The Pirates continued their strong performances in the relays with a pair of second-place finishes. Mackenzie Aamoth, Madison Hoiland, Claire Oman, and Fallon Johnson combined for a swim of 2:38.61 in the 200-meter medley relay while the same group finished the 400-meter freestyle relay. Mackenzie Aamoth had a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter backstroke. Claire Oman took second in both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle races. Fallon Johnson added a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle for the Pirates as well.

“We tried some girls in some different events,” explained Crookston head coach Marley Melbye. “Claire (Oman) tried the 50 freestyle and did really well in that. I think she enjoyed it, and she looked pretty solid doing it. For some of the girls, we used this meet to try and find what that second race is as we look ahead to the conference meet and after that. Madison (Hoiland) tried the 200 IM and looked really good in that. We kind of dabbled a bit, but the girls swam well. This wasn’t our fastest meet. I think coming off of a three-meet week last week, I think that made for some tired girls. It’s kind of the middle of the season and that plateau. We saw that, but the girls are fighting. They’re feeling tired. They’re feeling sore and a little broken down, which at this point in the season is what you want to see.”

Crookston has a chance to rest and recover as the Pirates won’t return to the pool for competition until next Saturday, October 12 for the Section 8A True Team Meet in Grand Rapids.
