CROOKSTON TRACK & FIELD TEAMS COMPETE AT EAST GRAND FORKS INVITATIONAL

After being pushed back a day, the Crookston Boy’s & Girls Track & Field teams competed earlier this afternoon at the East Grand Forks Invitational held at the University of North Dakota inside the Fritz Pollard Athletic Center. The Girls Track & Field team finished tied for 3rd place out of 13 teams while the Boys Track & Field team finished 9th place out of 13 teams. The highlight once again was Breanna Kressin breaking two more school records during the meet. East Grand Forks won both the Girls and the Boys divisions.

GIRLS
Breanna Kressin once again led the way for the Girls Track team notching the only 1st place finishes in the meet. Kressin won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.18, and also won the 300 hurdles with a mark of 47.26. She also managed a 2nd place finish in the 60-meter race with a time of 7.85, and with that finish, she earned a total of 28 points in her three events. Kressin managed to set a pair of school records during the team’s last meet, and she now owns three more. Her times in the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash were good for the new Crookston Girls Track indoor record, and the team had never run an indoor 300 hurdles before so Kressin will own that for the time being as well.

Sisters Hayden and Halle Winjum each had strong days for the Pirates as well. Hayden Winjum placed 2nd in the 400-meters race with a time of 1:04.17 which is two seconds better than her previous race at the last meet. She also took 3rd place in the Long Jump with a jump of 15-00.50. Halle Winjum also placed in the 60-meter race running alongside Breanna Kressin, taking 6th place with a time of 8.18. She also tried Pole Vaulting during the meet and managed to place 5th with a mark of 7-00:00.

The 4X200 relay team of Halle Winjum, Cassie Solheim, Carly Thode, and Hayden Winjum had a nice race, shaving off three seconds from the teams race during their last meet for a time of 1:57.25 earning them a 5th place finish.

In total with other contributions, the team racked up 72 points which was good for a tie with West Marshall Fusion for 3rd place. “I thought it was a great team effort and overall I’m very pleased with the girls for their performance,” said Crookston Pirate Girls Track & Field Coach Amy Boll. “Cassie Solheim did a really nice job with her meet, and I thought Libby Salentine was another one that had a solid meet as well. Everyone improved and to tie for third place at this meet was great to see.”

BOYS
The Boys team once again struggled to score points but showed improvement. Their top finishes were from Carter Coautte, Thor Harbott, and Ethan Boll.

Carter Coautte placed 6th in the 400 meters with a time of 56.77 which was almost identical to his time of 56.73 at the last meet. Thor Harbott also had a 6th place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:50.33, and Ethan Boll had a jump of 18-00:00 in the Long Jump earning a 6th place finish as well.

6th place finishes were worth three points for the event, earning the Pirates 9 of their 14 points.
