Crookston United Way Helps The Golden Link

The Golden Link Senior Center was established in 1986 by three community members who felt the need for seniors to have a place for social interaction, service, and fellowship.  Committees were developed consisting of 30 people representing seniors, advocates, city administration and friends.  Through various fundraising initiatives and lots of sweat equity, the developing committees were able to open the senior center to the public in the former Diamonds Building.
The United Way has partnered several times in the past few years to assist the Golden Link says United Way of Crookston Executive Director Lori Wagner. “The Golden Link only asks for a United Way grant when they are really in need and we’ve partnered with them on a number of projects,” said Wagner. “In the past funding has gone to replacing the repair of the north entrance, which had been very uneven, the side entrance carpeting, windows and paint, a handicap electric door and a new refrigerator when the Golden Link took over the senior meal program.”
Altogether the partnership has made it safer for seniors to get in and out of the Golden Link, provided the necessary equipment for the meal program and will continue to make the Golden Link the center for events, meals, social interaction and more among local seniors.
