CROOKSTON WRESTLERS WIN TWO MATCHES AT FERTILE-BELTRAMI TRIANGULAR

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team won a total of 13 matches by forfeit and cruised to a 70-12 win over the short-handed Fertile-Beltrami Falcons and they had a hard-fought 55-16 victory over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis Wolves in a triangular in Fertile.

CROOKSTON VS FERTILE-BELTRAMI
The Crookston Pirates won eight matches by forfeit and cruised to a 70-12 victory over the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons.

Fertile-Beltrami took the early lead with a Dante Yost forfeit victory at 106 pounds, but Crookston bounced back to win the next 10 matches with eight of them by forfeits.  Evin Trudeau won his match at 113 pounds by pinning Julian Ystens in 40 seconds.  Braxton Volker won the 138-pound match with a 10-0 major decision over Westly Ramburg. “Braxton had a nice opening takedown,” said Pirate Coach Wes Hanson. “He had a nice knee slide and also made an escape look pretty and got back to his feet and kept on the offense and wrestled a nice match.”  Fertile-Beltrami won the 195-pound match by a pin and the last match wrestled was heavyweight and Hunter Kresl won by a pin in late in the first period to give Crookston a 70-12 victory.  “Hunter had a nice breakdown and had a nice match and getting the pin going up a weight class, but it was a nice way to end the dual,” said Coach Hanson. “I wish we would have been able to wrestle some more matches, but the matches we did wrestle we saw some good things.”

CROOKSTON VS WALKER-HACKENSACK-AKELEY
Crookston won six of the first seven and the last three matches of the dual to beat Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis 55-16.

WHA won the 106 match by pin, but Crookston bounced back to win the next six matches.  Nolan Dans won his match at 120 pounds by a 9-1 decision.  “Nolan scored a takedown right away and followed it with another takedown,” said Coach Hanson. “It was a good showing for him to go the full six minutes.” At 126, Ethan Bowman won by an 11-3 decision to give the Pirates an 8-6 lead.  Zach Brown won by a tech fall at 132 pounds for a 13-6 lead. “Ethan and Zach wrestled well,” said Coach Hanson. “It was good for them to go the distance and they controlled their matches the full six minutes.”   Braxton Volker, Cameron Weiland, and Casey Weiland all won by forfeit to give Crookston a 31-6 lead.  WHA won the 160 match by pin before Crookston’s Hunter Knutson won his match at 170 by a pin. “Hunter had a good matchup,” said Coach Hanson. “He made a nice move and came away with a nice pin.”  After a Pirate loss by decision at 182, Layton Fuentes, Ethan Boll, and Hunter Kresl all won by pin to give Crookston a 55-16 victory.  “Layton was down to start the second period and hit a nice roll maneuver and put the guy on his back and picked up the pin,” said Coach Hanson. “It is nice having a guy like Ethan Boll where we can move him around to give us favorable matchups at the bottom of the order.  Hunter wrestled a smart match and wore his opponent down and was able to get the pin.”

Coach Hanson said it was a good way to end the day. “We got a lot of matches and wrestled kids we haven’t wrestled before and we looked better than we did on Thursday.”
Crookston improves to 3-1 on the year.
