The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team had four individual champions and one runner-up finish to win the team championship of the United Clay Becker Terry Teiken Tournament in Lake Park.
The Pirates had four champions in their respective weight classes, Carter Coauette, Ethan Bowman, Zach Brown, and Ethan Boll, while Cam Weiland finished second. The Pirates picked up third-place finishes from Nolan Dans, Braxton Volker, Hunter Knutson, and Greg Gonzale.! The Pirates without any wrestlers at 170 and 285 held on to edge Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for the title, 172 to 170.5. “I was really impressed with how the guys finished the tournament today,” said Pirate Wrestling Coach Wes Hanson. “To win the first three championship matches was pretty exciting and a great start. We were happy with how many guys made it to the finals and there were a lot of great matches.”
Carter Coauette won the championship at 106 pounds and got a little payback with the win. “He lost to Dante Yost in overtime last weekend and Carter won in overtime this time,” said Coach Hanson.
Ethan Bowman won the title at 113 pounds. “Ethan continues his great wrestling and won by a pin,” said Coach Hanson.
Zach Brown won the title at 120 pounds. “Zach showed a lot of offense and picked up a major decision to finish off a great day,” said Coach Hanson.
Ethan Boll won the championship at 182 pounds as the #2 seed. “Ethan was able to hit a real nice takedown and got five points early in the match and won by a major decision to help seal the deal and the team title.”
Overall Coach Hanson was happy with his team’s day. “The guys were excited about a different event,” said Coach Hanson. “Everybody wrestled well and we had some good quality matches.”
