The Crookston Pirate Wrestlers won eight matches by forfeit on their way to sweeping the Crookston triangular with a 45-33 win over Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena, and a 57-15 victory over the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

CROOKSTON VS BLACKDUCK-CASS LAKE-BENA
Crookston started the match with a win by forfeit at 106 pounds, but they lost the next match by forfeit and the match was tied at 6.
BCLB won the next two matches by pin to take an 18-6 lead.
Crookston’s Casey Weiland wrestled a solid match and took a 3-2 lead in the first period. His opponent started the second period with a takedown for a 4-3 lead, but Weiland countered with an escape halfway through the period and added a takedown for a 6-4 lead going into the third period. Weiland started the third period strong and won by a pin 25 seconds into the period for a victory, to bring the Pirates within an 18-12 deficit.
BCLB won the 145-pound match by decision for a 21-12 lead.
At 145-pounds, Ethan Bowman got the Pirates going by jumping out to a 2-0 lead with a quick takedown. After his opponent scored on a reversal they were tied at 2. Bowman answered with a takedown before another reversal for a 4-4 tie going into the second period. Bowman started the second period with another takedown, only to be countered with a reversal and a 6-6 tie. With 22-seconds left in the period, Bowman scored three near-fall points to take a 9-6 lead into the third period. 50-seconds into the third period, Bowman won the match on a pin and Crookston trailed 21-18.
Braxton Volker gave the Pirates the lead when he jumped out to a 6-2 lead going into the second period. Volker had an escape to start the second period before winning by pin to give the Pirates a 24-21 lead.
Crookston was open at 160-pounds and trailed 27-24, but Leyton Fuentes won his match at 170-pounds by a forfeit. Hunter Knutson won at 182-pounds. He took a 3-2 lead going into the second period. He had a takedown for a 5-2 lead after the second period. In the third period, Hunter had an escape and after a reversal by his opponent, Hunter had an escape followed by a takedown to win 10-4 and Crookston had a 33-27 lead.
Ethan Boll won by a pin in 19-seconds and Hunter Kresl won by a forfeit for a 45-27 lead going into the final match. BCLB won the heavyweight match by a pin in 50-seconds and Crookston won the match 45-33.
Crookston improves to 9-5 on the year and will take on Fertile-Beltrami in the final match of the night.

CROOKSTON VS FERTILE-BELTRAMI
Crookston’s Evin Trudeau had a great start to the match by taking a 4-1 lead after the first period. In the second period, Trudeau controlled the match and was able to win by a pin with three seconds left in the second period to give the Pirates a 6-0 lead.
Fertile-Beltrami won the 113-pound match by forfeit. Crookston won the next three matches (120, 126, and 132) by forfeit for a 24-6 lead.
After four straight forfeits, a match was wrestled at 138-pounds, when Carter Coauette won by a pin in 13-seconds to give the Pirates a 30-6 lead.
At 145-pounds, Braxton Volker took a 2-0 lead with a takedown. Fertile-Beltrami’s Wesley Ramberg scored a point on an escape and Volker took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Volker had a solid second period by scoring the only points with three near-fall points for a 5-1 lead going into the third period. Volker scored a point on an escape for a 6-1 lead and that is how the match ended for a 33-5 Crookston lead.
At 152-pounds, Ethan Bowman started with a takedown less than 10-seconds into the match. After an escape, Bowman had a takedown and three near-fall points for a 7-1 lead, but Lavalier scored on a reversal. A few seconds later, Lavalier had a reversal to get within a 7-3 deficit. Bowman finished the period with a reversal and took a 9-3 lead into the second period. In the second, Bowman had an early takedown for an 11-3 lead, but Lavalier had a reversal and Bowman took an 11-5 lead into the third period. In the third, Bowman started with a takedown for a 13-5 lead. With one minute left in the period, Lavalier had a reversal to get within a 13-7 deficit. Bowman made a beautiful move with about 25 seconds left in the match and got a pin with 19 seconds remaining.
Leyton Fuentes and Hunter Knutson received wins by forfeit at 160 and 182 pounds with a double-forfeit at 170.
Ethan Boll, for the second straight match, won by pin in less than 20-seconds to give Crookston a 57-6 lead with two matches remaining.
At 220-pounds, Crookston’s Hunter Kresl and Fertile-Beltrami’s Micah Herbel had a scoreless first period. Kresl started the second period with an escape for a 1-0 lead. Herbel countered with a nice throw for a takedown with 65 seconds left in the period. Kresl evened the score at 2-2 with an escape. In the third period, Herbel took over with an escape and a takedown for a 5-2 lead. Kresl scored on an escape to get within a 5-3 deficit with a minute left in the match, but Herbel held on for the 5-3 victory.
Fertile-Beltrami’s James Flynn came out strong in the heavyweight match and threw Crookston’s Jesse Sanchez to the mat and won by a pin in 19-seconds, but Crookston won the match by a 57-15 score.
Crookston improves to 10-5 on the year and will travel to the Thief River Falls tournament on Saturday.
