CROOKSTON WRESTLERS FALL TO FRAZEE AND UNC IN TRIANGULAR

The Crookston Pirate Wrestlers wrestled well but came up a little short in a 42-33 loss to Frazee and a 36-33 loss to United North Central at the Frazee triangular on Thursday evening.

CROOKSTON vs FRAZEE
The Pirates started the evening with Frazee and the Hornets won the first match by a decision to take a 3-0 lead.
Crookston bounced back with Nolan Dans winning by pin late in the second period. “Nolan had a really good night of wrestling and he has established himself as one of the top 113-pounders in the section,” said Pirate Coach Wes Hanson. “He had a good performance and a nice win.”
Zach Brown followed with a pin 40-seconds into his match to give Crookston a 12-3 lead. “Zach knows the importance of bonus points,” said Coach Hanson. “He was quick to get after it.”
Ethan Bowman won at 126 pounds with a 10-6 decision. “Ethan was in control and gave up a reversal and it got a little closer than it would be,” said Coach Hanson. “Ethan did a great job of battling through it and picked up some points to get the win.”
With Crookston leading 15-3, Frazee rattled off five straight wins.  Three by pins, one by a forfeit, and one by decision, and the Hornets took a 30-15 lead.
Crookston’s Hunter Knutson stopped the Frazee winning streak with a pin at 170-pounds. “Hunter is coming on and firing off his attacks and staying in good position,” said Coach Hanson. “He is wrestling with a lot of confidence right now.”
Frazee solidified a victory with two more wins by pin to take a 42-21 lead with two matches remaining.
Ethan Boll won by a pin at 220-pounds, and Greg Gonzalez finished the match with a pin at heavyweight.  “Ethan went out there and got to his offense and did a good job,” said Coach Hanson. “Greg did a nice job to finish off the match with a pin to finish the dual.”
Frazee won the match 42-33.

Crookston drops to 19-10 in duals and they will likely be hosting Fosston-Bagley on Monday night in the first round of the Section 8A Team wrestling tournament.
Frazee beat United North Central so Frazee improves to 11-10 in duals and will likely be the top seed in the team tournament.  UNC is now 16-7 in duals.
