The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team celebrated senior night and parents night with a 69-6 victory over the short-handed Roseau Rams and a 65-14 victory over the short-handed Fertile-Beltrami Falcons in a double-dual at the Crookston High School Gymnasium.
The Pirate Seniors are Cameron Hulst and managers Allie Love, Brylee Lessard, and Claudia Dumrongkietiman.
CROOKSTON VS ROSEAU
The Roseau Rams only had five wrestlers in their line up so Crookston knew they had won the match going in and cruised to 69-6 victory. Carter Coauette and Ethan Bowman started the match with wins by forfeit. Spencer Ness was the first Pirate to wrestle a match and won by a pin in the first period to give the Pirates an 18-0 lead. Zach Brown won the 126-pound match by forfeit before Cameron Weiland won his match by a pin in the first period for a 30-0 lead. Braxton Volker and Cade Coauette won their matches by forfeit before Roseau’s Race Knochenmus beat Cameron Hulst by pin in the first period to give the Rams their only points of the match. “Cam wrestled a solid match, but he ran into a very good opponent,” said Pirate Coach Wes Hanson.
Hunter Knutson and Hunter Kresl won by forfeit for a 54-6 lead. The match of the night was at 182 pounds when Ethan Boll beat Ben Olson 6-2 in double overtime. The wrestlers were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation. In double overtime, Boll scored a takedown with four seconds left and right before the buzzer Boll scored two nearfall points and held on for a 6-2 victory. “Ethan’s match was a nice win against a very good opponent,” said Coach Hanson. “Ethan wrestled well in overtime and had a great match.”
Layton Fuentes won the 195-pound match by forfeit and the final match of the dual was at 220 pounds and Crookston’s Greg Gonzalez had a nice win by pin in the third period to solidify the 69-6 victory. “It was nice to have Greg back in the lineup for us,” said Coach Hanson. “I thought our guys wrestled hard and Ethan and Greg getting the wins at the top were great.”

CROOKSTON VS FERTILE-BELTRAMI
The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons only had nine wrestlers in the lineup and Crookston took advantage of the openings.
Crookston’s Carter Coauette and Ethan Bowman won the first two matches by forfeit and Zach Brown won his match at 120 pounds with a first period pin to give the Pirates an 18-0 lead.
Fertile-Beltrami scored their first points of the match when Seth Lavalier beat Nolan Dans 11-6 at 126 pounds. Crookston bounced back with a Cameron Weiland got the Pirates back on the winning track with a second period pin for a 24-3 lead. Braxton Volker followed with a hard-fought third-period pin at 138 pounds and Cade Coauette won his match by a forfeit. Cameron Hulst kept the Pirates winning ways going with an impressive second-period pin, which was followed by two forfeit victories for Hunter Knutson and Hunter Kresl for a 54-3 lead. “It was a good night for Cam and he wrestled his match, wrestled hard, and wrestled with a little vengeance and that was nice to see,” said Coach Hanson. “I thought the guys in the middle wrestled well and we knew they were going to be close matches and they wrestled well.”
Fertile-Beltrami’s Micah Herbel stopped Crookston’s six-match winning streak with a win by pin in the first period, but the Pirates Ethan Boll won his match at 195 pounds with a 10-2 decision. “Ethan Greg Gonzalez gave the Pirates their final victory of the night with a pin at 220 pounds before Fertile-Beltrami won the heavyweight match by forfeit and Crookston won the match 64-15. “It was a good night for us,” said Coach Hanson. “We celebrated the seniors and the parents and picked up two wins so it was a very good night.”
Crookston improves to 10-7 in duals on the year and will be off until Tuesday, December 14 when they have a dual with Fosston-Bagley.
