DAMAGE BEING ASSESSED FOLLOWING LAUNDRY FIRE AT UND RESIDENCE HALL

At approximately 10:46 pm on Friday, February 7 the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in the laundry facility at the University of North Dakota’s West Hall, 3530 University Ave.

Crews arrived on scene and the building had been evacuated with the help of the facilities resident assistants. Crews entered the structure, located and extinguished a fire in a clothes dryer. Fire and smoke damage was contained to the laundry area. The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates are not yet available. There were no injuries to occupants or fire department personnel as a result of this incident. All occupants were allowed to inhabit the structure at the time of the fire department clearing the scene.   

The Fire Department responded with five engines, one ladder truck and one command vehicle with a total seventeen personnel. They were assisted by the University of North Dakota Police Department, facility resident assistants, the University of North Dakota Safety Office and Altru Ambulance.
