Deb Kiel and Brent Lindstrom Facing Off For District 1B

The candidates running for Minnesota House in District 1B are Brent Lindstrom and Deb Kiel.  We asked each candidate to introduce themselves and why they are running.

Q: Would you please tell us about yourself?

Brent: My name is Brent Lindstrom, live over in East Grand Forks and work at New Flyer building buses.  I’ve got two boys of my own and my wife has a son too.  Both of my boys are down at Winona State and Andrew is making a living down in the cities area.

Deb: I am running for a 5th term and very proud to serve in the Minnesota House.  My husband and I farm south of Crookston and were watching our son take over the family business.  Our daughter-in-law is sometimes out there working, and our grandson and granddaughter are getting involved.  Agriculture is an important part of the valley.  I am proud to say I have four children and we had another grandchild, so our tally is 15, eight grandson and seven granddaughters.  Just really enjoy running for office.

Q: Why are you running?

Brent: Part of what I learned from my parents was to serve your community. They were on township, church, co-op boards and were very active in the American Legion. In the military when I was in the Air Force one of our core values was service before self.  So I’ve really taken that to heart and realized after I didn’t have the military there anymore that I really did enjoy getting into the community.  I’ve volunteered numerous events.  Catfish days was one, where I’d use my four-wheeler to get the guys back up to the weigh-in station, been a youth football coach and football official.  My kids both played hockey, I’ve been a blue line board member and I founded the Grand Cities Lacrosse Association where I’ve also become a US Certified Lacrosse Coach, and of course a booster and fundraiser for them to.

Deb: I’ve very proud of the place I’ve grownup and lived in.  District 1B is big consisting of all of Polk and Red Lake County and most of Pennington County but it’s where I’ve grownup.  I think we have a lot to offer.  I’m very proud of the record I’ve run under and the things we’ve been able to get done and would like to continue working for District 1B.  Aging is kind of my focus, however there are more important things also like sustainable healthcare in northwest Minnesota and agriculture.  I’m one of only four working farmers in the Minnesota House and working with transportation issues too.

Q: Anything you would like to add?

Brent:  I know I’m new to this game.  I’m a budding politician, only been in this about six months.  I’m learning every day and I’m willing to keep learning every day.  I just look forward to earning everybody’s vote.

Deb: No, I think that’s good.
