Debra Kopecky – Obit

Debra Lynn (Common) Kopecky, 65, of rural Euclid, MN, passed away Friday evening, September 16, 2022, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by family.

Deb was born in Grand Forks, ND on July 21, 1957, the youngest of 4 children of the union of Duane and Dolores (Armentrout) Common. After graduation from Red River High School in Grand Forks she went on to attend UND and Mayville State College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from UMC. Deb married the love of her life, Daniel Ernest Kopecky, on July 16, 1977, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Grand Forks. Together they raised their 2 children, Michael, born in 1981, and Laura, born in 1983, in their rural Euclid home. Deb taught at the UMC Children’s Center for several years, doing the work she so loved until her retirement in 2012 due to health reasons.

Deb was happiest when spending time with her family and was especially proud of her 2 granddaughters, Makenna and Brynna. She enjoyed going out on the trails with the ‘Gator’, and in her quieter moments doing embroidery, crafting, and making greeting cards.

Deb is lovingly survived by Dan, her best friend and soulmate of 45 years; their 2 children, Mike (April) Kopecky and Laura Kopecky, also 2 very precious granddaughters, Makenna and Brynna  Kopecky, all of rural Euclid, MN. She also leaves 3 siblings: Dawn Moe of Grand Forks, ND, Diane (Allen) Saul, of Cordova, TN, and Doug (Marcia) Common, of Anaheim, CA; a brother-in-law Dale (Janet) Kopecky of Crookston, MN; as well as, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Dolores Common; brother-in-law, Lyle Moe; and parents-in-law, Ernest and Louise Kopecky. Blessed be the memory of Debra Lynn Kopecky.

The family wish to extend a huge thank-you to Dr. Potti of the Cancer Center of ND, and Vanessa Sundeen and Dr. Dalmi of Altru for the wonderful care Deb has been given over the last few years.

A visitation will be held at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Private family burial will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.

Memorials can be sent to the Cancer Center of ND in memory Debra Kopecky
