Dennis McCauley – OBIT

Dennis McCauley, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 76.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating.  Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN, at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday at Johnson Funeral Service.

Dennis Ray McCauley was born on December 9, 1947, at Grafton, ND, son of Juel and Gladys (Eagleson) McCauley. He attended elementary school grades 1-5 at Angus, MN, attended 6th grade at McKinley school in Crookston, MN, and graduated class of 1966 at Crookston High School. Dennis attended the University of Minnesota, Crookston, Thief River Falls Technical College and Anoka Ramsey Junior College.

Dennis joined the US Navy and was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia.

Dennis was united in marriage to Yolanda Smith, to this union two daughters were born – Amber and Kimberly.

On August 7, 1993, he was united in marriage to Darlene Haugen at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN.

Dennis worked as manager of United Furniture Sales in Rochester, MN, and Minot, ND.  He worked at Broadway Furniture in Grand Forks, ND where he was top salesman. He had a dream to own his own furniture store. That dream came true on April 9, 1990, when he opened the Furniture Connection in Thief River Falls, MN. He expanded the store in Roseau and Warroad, MN. He later opened Affordable Furniture in Thief River Falls and Fosston, MN. Dennis established and operated Deer Crossing Collectables and Gifts until his retirement.

Dennis enjoyed fishing, traveling, watching movies and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, never missing a game.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 30 years Darlene; sister Janice Johnson of New Hope, MN; daughters Amber (fiancé Darin Gabriel) McCauley of Fargo, ND and Kimberly (Jordan) Graff of Forrest, Lake, MN; granddaughters Amayla Graff, Brielle Graff and Graycen Gabriel; nephews Terry (Sharon) Johnson of Champlin, MN, Scott (Julie) Johnson of Maple Grove, MN, Jason (Rebecca) Warner of Albertville, MN, Jerrod (Melissa) Warner of Dickinson, ND, Jeremiah Johnson of Grand Forks, ND, Brennen Johnson of Grand Forks, ND, Nathan (Heidi) Knudsen of West Fargo, ND; nieces Renee (Brian) Rautio of Zimmerman, MN and Georgiana (Brad) Duffy of Bismarck, ND; brothers and sisters-in-law Keith (Karlene) Warner of Devils Lake, ND, Karen Knudsen of Glendale, AZ, Russ (Bonnie) Schonmeier of East Grand Forks, MN and Arlan (Darla) Duckstad of Grand Forks, ND.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Juel and Gladys McCauley; his brother, Terrance Wayne McCauley; his nephew, Ryan Johnson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Lena Haugen.
