Donald “Sandy” Sanders – OBIT

A celebration of life is planned on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 1 to 5 pm at his home on Tulaby Lake.

Donald “Sandy” Sanders, 80, Tulaby Lake, formerly of Crookston, died Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Sandy was born in Fargo, ND on March 26, 1943, the son of Carroll E. Sanders and Bonnie (Illgen). As a child he moved with his family to Crookston, MN, where he grew up, attended school, and graduated in 1961 from Central High School. In 1964 he entered the US Navy, where he served on the USS Independence during the Vietnam War.

On November 28, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Brolsma, in Crookston. After working briefly in the communities of East Grand Forks, Minot, and Fridley, Sandy and Carol returned to Crookston where they lived, worked, and raised their three children, Scott, Susan, and Steven. Sandy was employed for 33 years at the University of Minnesota-Crookston retiring in 2003, as a master plumber. Sandy and Carol then moved to their lake home on Tulaby Lake near Waubun, Minnesota where he enjoyed living the lake life and the many visits from his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; Carol, three children, Scott (Tricia) Sanders, Steve Sanders both of Crookston, Susan Sanders of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Zachary Sanders, Sophia Sanders & finance, Alex LaFrance, Samantha Sanders, Georgia Sanders, Connor and Cayden Jennings; one sister, Terryl Erickson, Greenbush, MN.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Carroll & Bonnie, a sister, Jennifer, and a brother, Robert. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1pm at their home on Tulaby Lake.
