Doris I. Barkve- Obit

Doris I. Barkve, 92, Ada, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2021, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.

Doris Irene (Jacobson) Barkve was born on May 31, 1929, to Clarence and Nettie (Bell) Jacobson in rural Hendrum Township.

Doris married Howard Barkve on July 28, 1951, and together they had four children. Doris was a devoted wife and mother who gave her all to her family.

Doris made her life with her family in the Hendrum-Ada area. She had a strong faith in Christ and reflected that faith as a member of her church community and her neighborhood. Like a good neighbor, Doris visited shut-in neighbors and did what she could do for them, providing support and companionship. Life brought loss, and some very challenging times for Doris. She was not prone to complaining, and she strongly persevered. She was not afraid of hard work and her dedication to helping others was greatly appreciated by the many lives she touched.

Genealogy was of interest to Doris, as she informally kept track of her many extended families of cousins and their families. She attended and enjoyed many family reunions.

Doris is survived by her sons, David Barkve, Ada, MN, Allen (Kelly) Barkve, Marine on St. Croix, MN, and Steven Barkve, Ada, MN; grandchildren, Marit Barkve Dally, Nik (Kate Schletty) Barkve, Christopher Olson, and Tony Olson; and great-grandchildren, Olander and Leo Dally, June Barkve, and Michael Olson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents, Clarence and Nettie Jacobson; daughter, Irene Barkve; and sister, Ardis (Jacobson) Chisholm.

Funeral: 2:00 PM, Monday, October 18, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN. Due to COVID 19 concerns, the Barkve family has requested that masks be worn to the funeral and visitation.

Visitation: Two hours before the funeral at the church.

Interment: Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Ada, MN.
