Doris J. Wang – OBIT

Doris J. Wang, 90, Fertile, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at her residence in Fertile with her two remaining children, Brian and Vickie by her side as she left this life to reunite with her husband Ken, and eldest son, Danny.

Doris Jean Wang was born on April 27, 1933 to Andrew and Mabel (Scott) Shasky in Mashaug Creek Township in Mahnomen County.

Doris wed Kenneth Wang on July 19, 1953. After many residences the young family settled in Fertile, MN in 1967. Doris was so much more than a homemaker. She was a painter, inside and out, enjoyed maintaining her yard, and was a handywoman as Ken was on the road making a living. Doris believed children and a home needed to be tended to. After Kenny’s retirement, vinyl siding and a lawnmower were purchased. Hmmm….

Doris enjoyed bingo in the day, and her luck meant consistent returns. Being Ken took time off the road every February, Valentine’s Day found them in Reno, NV. After Ken’s retirement, they would load up their cat and themselves in their motorhome and head to Reno or Laughlin, NV. When the Shooting Star Casino opened, Doris could be found at one of her favorite keno machines where 25 cents could win $1,750, which she did 14 times in 1 year.

Doris is survived by her children, Brian Wang, Fertile, MN, and Dr. Vickie Wang, DVM, Bemidji, MN. She is also survived by her and aunt, Lois (LeRoy Kauppang) Wang, Winger, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mabel; husband, Ken; eldest son, Danny; sisters, Marie and LaVerne; and her beloved cats, Delta and Pussums.

As Doris loved dogs and especially cats, in lieu of flowers or plants, the family asks that a donation be given to a Humane Society or pet rescue of your choice.

Graveside Service: 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou, MN.
