DOWNTOWN CROOKSTON DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP PRESENTS 2ND ANNUAL BROADWAY AT THE GRAND

The Downtown Crookston Development Partnership (DCDP) presents to the community Broadway At The Grand at the historic Grand Theatre. This is the second year the DCDP has utilized Grand Theatre, where they livestream Broadway musicals to the big screen.

“We rent the theatre, and we find musicals from New York and Broadway,” said Chairperson of the DCDP, Shirley Iverson, “And we stream them in the big theatre with a great sound system, one night a month.”

The first Broadway show occurred on February 15, when the Grand Theatre live-streamed The Lion King. The next showing will occur on Thursday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m., where you can watch the Tony award-winning production Bandstand. “Believe me, there’s going to be a lot of action,” said Iverson, “There will be a lot of movement on stage, and we’ll be able to see that streaming on Broadway. This is about World War II soldiers returning to the United States. Hence, the storyline follows those soldiers and their families. It has a lot of great singing in between.”

The final showing for Broadway At The Grand this spring will take place on Thursday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m., featuring a production called ‘Into the Woods.’ This play is known for its sing-along music, which many know, and it gives a different perspective on the famous character Little Red Riding Hood.

Each of these productions is free to attend, courtesy of the DCDP. Concessions will be available during each show as well. The DCDP encourages community members to utilize the Grand Theatre for future gatherings, to experience different movies, and to support downtown in general.

Like many other movie and production fans, Iverson expressed that there is no better way to watch a film than by experiencing it in theatres. “I was hearing a story after the Oscars,” said Iverson, “About how we’re all watching movies on different formats. But the best and truest way to see a movie is to go to The Grand Theatre. It’s a fabulous screen and seating, and Bo makes some darn good popcorn.”
