DR. LUKAS BIERMAIER IS NOW OWNER OF BIERMAIER CHIROPRACTIC

Biermaier Chiropractor in Crookston is under new ownership. Steve Biermaier has owned the local business for 37 years and is now passing the torch to his son, Lukas Biermaier.

Lukas Biermaier has been with the business since 2015 after he graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University. He describes what the buyout process was like.

“I’ve explained it as a bigger house purchase, just for the fact that there is a lot of paperwork, different lawyers, things like that. The difference was there was no moving of anything. We didn’t have to move houses. It was very much; you come into work literally the day after the transition happens, and not a thing changes; it was great. And that’s one thing that I’m really excited about with the clinic. We have it set up so well for patient care that we are current on all of the newest and latest things that we didn’t have to change anything. And there are a few things here and there that we’re going to keep expanding with. There’s nothing too dramatic at the moment, and it was; I just came to work the next day, and I was the owner, and he was the employee kind of a situation.”

Since 2015, the plan has been to have Lukas Biermaier take over ownership as part of the contract agreement when he started working at the business. A couple of years ago, they decided that Lukas would take over when Steve turned 62. Lukas describes why this was a good time for the switch.

“The timing just felt good with it. There was no stress on any of our parts. It simply worked itself into it. It’s honestly been a pretty smooth transition, and that’s been a couple of years in the making. So, it wasn’t really anything too stressful. I know that the people we did work with as far as the paperwork side of things were very thankful for that because we weren’t throwing a whole bunch at them at one time. And so it took kind of this whole year to get all the paperwork set up, and it went very smooth.”

When Lukas Biermaier first took over, he started his own business. Previously, it was Biermaier Chiropractic Clinic PA, and now it’s Biermaier Chiropractic PLLC. Even though it’s a new entity, it will still operate the same as it always has. Lukas Biermaier says that there are no other big changes planned for now, but they do want to continue using some of the new treatment options that they’ve implemented recently.

“A couple of the fun things we do have is we’ve upgraded a few of our therapy machines, which include ultrasound and muscle stim. And we do some fun, cold laser therapy that has been a new thing that I haven’t really advertised a lot, but it’s something that has been up and coming with the research, especially for those sprains, strains, injuries, as well as those big contusions or bruises, to increase the healing time on that.”

Lukas Biermaier does plan to hire another chiropractor within the next year to keep up with the increasing patient demand.

Steve Biermaier will still work at the business and has no immediate plans for retirement. Steve shares his perspective on the ownership change.

“Dr Luke (Biermaier) has been here for about 8 or 9 years and he’s already been taking over a lot of the controls and doing a lot of the things already behind the scenes. So, actually, it’s been a pretty smooth transition. I haven’t noticed much change at all.”

Lukas Biermaier says that the model for the business is “Personal family community center care” and that he takes pride in being from the area and serving the community. He also says this business acquisition will not affect his work with the school as an athletic trainer.
