DRECHSEL FIELD UNDERWATER AS CITY OF RED LAKE FALLS CONTINUES FIGHTING FLOOD

The City of Red Lake Falls is continuing its efforts to fight the flood that has affected a few areas in town. The biggest area is near the Cardin Hunt Arena where the Drechsel Baseball Field is completely underwater due to the rising of the Red Lake River. “The water has started to decrease which is good news, but as you can see there is a lot of damage that has already been done,” said Cardin Hunt Arena Manager Adam Knutson. “Once the water on the field finally does come down, there will be a lot of cleanup and work to be done, so the good news is we’re getting closer to that but the bad news is that there has been some damage done because of the flood.”

Other areas in the city have also been affected, including a couple of small neighborhoods, Riverside Park, along with Sportsman Park. “Thankfully, river levels are receding,” said Red Lake Falls Vice-Mayor Briana Ingraham. “The fire department and local volunteers have been sandbagging by the arena, and there are a few residents dealing with some flooding in their yard, but for the most part the flooding has been around the city parks.”

While it appears that the river will continue to decrease over the next several days, the city is going to be monitoring the situation closely. “Along with the Sheriff’s Department and emergency personnel, we will continue to monitor the situation, but hopefully the waters continue to recede,” stated Ingraham.

As of now, the public is recommended to stay away from areas that have been affected until the water levels recede. We were able to visit Red Lake Falls this morning and a bunch of pictures from the affected areas can be found down below.
