EAST GRAND FORKS DOMINANT IN VICTORY OVER CROOKSTON BOYS BASKETBALL

The East Grand Forks Green Wave used stellar defense, solid shooting, and easy baskets to beat the Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team 97-58 in a Section 8AA matchup played in East Grand Forks.

FIRST HALF-
The first three minutes were back-and-forth before East Grand Forks went on an 8-0 run with four different players scoring baskets for a 16-7 lead with 11:35 left in the half. Crookston’s Tyler Michaelson stopped the run with a basket, and after the teams exchanged baskets, East Grand Forks went on a 14-0 run behind several Crookston turnovers and a pair of three-pointers from Chase Lindgren for a 32-12 lead with six minutes remaining in the half.
East Grand Forks had a 42-24 lead before Crookston’s Michaelson sparked a run with a three-pointer followed by baskets from Reggie Winjum and Nicholas to get within a 42-31 deficit, and it looked like the Pirates were back in the game. East Grand Forks ended the half on a 7-2 run to take a 49-33 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston started the second half with the ball and turned it over, leading to a Carson McDonald basket. East Grand Forks stole the ball again, and that led to a McDonald three-pointer. The ensuing inbound pass was stolen, and Lindgren scored for the first seven points of the half and a 56-33 lead over a minute into the half. Crookston finally stopped the run with a Caden Boike basket three minutes into the half. Crookston continued to struggle with the Green Wave’s full-court pressure and, halfway through the half, saw the Green Wave with a 77-43 lead. With 8:11 remaining in the game, the Green Wave’s McDonald scored to get the lead to 79-43 to start running time. The rest of the game went quickly as the Green Wave went to the bench with Wyatt Sanders making a three-pointer to the delight of the crowd. East Grand Forks won the game 97-58.

Crookston drops to 0-3 on the year while being outscored 256 to 154. The Pirates will host Warroad on Friday. East Grand Forks improves to 1-0 on the year.
