EAST GRAND FORKS FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO FIRE EARLY THIS MORNING-SEPTEMBER 7

This morning at 2:22 a.m., the East Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched for a fire that was reported out at Douglas Place, 1111 Gateway Drive NE. The building alarm system was operating, and the building was fully evacuated. It was determined that there was a small fire in one of the residential units within the facility. Occupants of the room could extinguish the fire on top of the heating/cooling unit that extended up to the mini blinds covering the window. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, caused by combustibles too close to the heating unit.

No injuries were reported, and facility occupants were allowed to return to their rooms. Assisting on the scene were East Grand Forks Police and Altru Ambulance.
