East Grand Forks Police Department (EGFPD) Detective Tony Hart was diagnosed with heart disease back in 2008. This March, Tony finally received a new heart. He is still going through treatment, and the EGFPD will be hosting a benefit to try and help him and his wife Katie cover the costs of treatment.
Below is a letter from the EGFPD with details about the event.
Detective Tony Hart has served the citizens of East Grand Forks since 2010. This last year, he has been in the biggest fight of his life.
Tony was diagnosed with heart disease back in 2008. After being treated, he did not experience any issues until last fall. After many tests and unsuccessful treatments, December came, and Tony was in organ failure. He was airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. It was determined that Tony would need a new heart. After a long, challenging wait, Tony received a heart transplant on March 1st!
Many long months of hospitalization and rehabilitation went by until finally Tony was welcomed home on June 17th. Tony not only continues dialysis and rehab appointments several times a week but also has regular follow-up appointments in Rochester. Tony and Katie continue working every day towards finding their ‘new normal.’
We are beyond grateful to have Tony back. Every day he grows stronger, but the medical bills don’t stop there. The East Grand Forks Police Department is reaching out to the community to help our brother. The Eagles Club, in association with the MN Fraternal Order of Police (Lodge 8) and the IPMC, are hosting a benefit on August 26th at the Eagle’s Club from 4:00 – 9:00 pm with a silent auction from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. We are seeking donations from the community to help defray the meal costs and donations of items for the silent auction.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made to the EGFPD Police Association or deposited directly into the Tony Hart account at Frandsen Bank in EGF. Donations for the auction can be brought to the EGF Police Department.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, does not go unnoticed. Help us raise funds for our brother, Detective Sergeant Hart.
With great appreciation, EGFPD Association
