EAST GRAND FORKS POLICE LOOKING FOR MALE THAT JUMPED INTO THE RIVER NEAR THE SORLIE BRIDGE

On June 22, 2022, at 4:05 p.m., East Grand Forks Officers were dispatched to 208 2nd Ave. NW for an unwanted person. Officers made contact with the subject, and he voluntarily left the address and stated he was returning to Grand Forks.

At 4:31 p.m., an East Grand Forks Officer reported that the subject from the previous call had jumped into the river near the Sorlie Bridge. Officers attempted to throw a buoy and a life jacket to the male subject, but he was unable to grab the items.

East Grand Forks Fire Department, along with Grand Fire, were called and responded to the river near the Blue Moose. Officers lost sight of the male a short time later.

Search efforts continue at this time.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Forks County Water Rescue will continue rescue/recovery efforts.

The subject is known to Officers, and their name will be withheld until the investigation is complete.

Recovery efforts continue for a man who was witnessed to submerge into the Red River on June 22, 2022. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Forks Water, and Rescue, East Grand Forks Fire, and Grand Forks Fire have been assisting with the search. At this time the name of the man is not being released.
