ECFE IS GOING SWIMMING AT THE CROOKSTON TOWN POOL

The Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program is taking kids to the Crookston Community Pool on Monday, April 25, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. The event is free to families with children ages birth through five.

The Crookston Early Childhood Family Education program is led by many of Crookston’s teachers and school principals.  The program frequently collaborates with Crookston’s Public Schools, City Hall, and the Crookston Library for many of their events around town.

The pool event will be the first time the program has tried with the goal of helping children from ages birth to five be exposed to water at an early age. ECFE Coordinator Gina Gunderson says that children can benefit enormously from exposure to water at an early age. It encourages their desire to swim and reduces the chance of developing a fear of water. Gunderson also reports that the pool will provide floaties that the families can use to help their child stay afloat but recommends that families bring their own life jackets to be safe.

ECFE holds multiple events for children each month called Monthly Childhood Events. One of these upcoming events is known as “Un-Plug and Play,” where the children get to play games outside in the nearby parks and will also take part in the Washington Elementary School’s End of the Year Picnic on Monday, May 16.

The ECFE Swimming Event will take place on Monday, April 25, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Crookston Community Pool with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Families with children ages birth to 5 will be allowed to get into the event for free and enjoy a fun time at the pool. ECFE families can call Gina if they have any questions or specific requests at 218-281-5078. For more information on ECFE and their schedule for upcoming events for the year, you can see their Winter/Spring newsletter at https://www.crookston.k12.mn.us/departments-communityeducation-ecfe.
