Elaine Irene Morvig – Obit

Elaine Irene Morvig, 91 rural Winger, MN died on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Perham Living Center, Perham, MN with her family around her.

Elaine was born on October 12, 1931, in rural Crookston, MN to Arthur and Louise (Demarais) Solie. Elaine was baptized on January 2, 1932, and confirmed on May 20, 1945, at Hafslo Lutheran Church. Elaine attended country school in rural Crookston.

On June 16, 1951, Elaine was united in marriage to LeRoy Morvig in Fertile. They had four children, Eileen, Alton, Mark and DeAnn. They purchased a farm in 1959 in Garden Township near Winger where Elaine lived until her death.

Elaine valued hard work and was dedicated to her family and church. Elaine was a member of Little Norway Lutheran Church. She served in many areas including Sunday School teacher, Chairman of service groups, and was a member of the WELCA. Elaine worked for Fair Meadow Nursing Home for 27 years as a cook. She also belonged to the Red Hatters and the local exercise group. In later years Elaine and Leroy traveled to Branson, Dollywood, Washington DC, Great Smokies, and Montana. Elaine loved to garden and was especially proud of her flowers. No one ever left Elaine’s kitchen hungry, her baking and cooking are well known to all.

Elaine’s strong faith and peace shone in her final days to all. Her wish was to be in heaven for Christmas and look into Jesus’ face. She asked why God hadn’t taken her yet as she was ready, and the Chaplin told her she wasn’t done on earth with sharing her special faith to those around her.

Elaine is survived by four children, Eileen (Dennis) Martin, Wadena, Alton (Jamie) Morvig, Fertile, Mark (Susan) Morvig, Maple Lake, and DeAnn (Todd) Bruggeman, Crookston; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Adeline Maygra; brother, Merle (Janet) Solie; sister-in-law, Luella Solie; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Morvig; parents, Arthur and Louise Solie; siblings, Jerry Solie and Eleanor Isaacson; one infant brother; and brothers-in-law, Carl Isaacson and Fred Maygra.

Funeral: 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Little Norway Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial: Little Norway Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
