The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team has Ethan Boll wrestling in the Championship at 195 pounds in the Varsity Division on the final day of the Rumble on the Red Wrestling Tournament being held at the Fargo Dome.
In the JV Division, Crookston had five wrestlers that placed including Braxton Volker who won the championship at 145 pounds going 6-0 on the two days. Evin Trudeau at 106 pounds, Gavin Hlucny at 120 pounds and Casey Weiland at 138 pounds all took fifth places and Spencer Ness finished eighth at 160 pounds on a very good tournament for these placewinners!!
VARSITY DIVISION
Ethan Boll won his semi-final match by beating Isaiah Huus of Bismarck by a pin at 2:47 to advance to the championship. Huus is the two-time defending North Dakota state champ at 195-pounds and was undefeated coming into the match. Boll is ranked #2 in Class A at 195-pounds and he took on Max McEnelly of Waconia in the championship. McEnelly is a two-time state Class AAA champion and also was the defending 16u National Freestyle champion. He is a junior and has committed to wrestle for the Gophers. In a wild fast paced championship match, McEnelly and Boll went at it pretty good with McEnelly getting a lot of takedowns and stretched out the lead in the third period when it was stopped at 5:04 on a technical fall with the score 25-10.
Ethan Bowman lost to Ashton Lipinski of Sartell-St. Stephen by a pin at 2:47 and was eliminated. Ethan had an impressive tournament going 4-2 and missed placing by one win.
