Eugene “Gene” Boyle – OBIT

Eugene “Gene” Boyle, 85, of Red Lake Falls, MN, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

The service to honor Eugene’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Denney will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Red Lake Falls, MN.

Eugene Alfred Boyle was born in Crookston, MN, on August 18, 1938, as the only child of Ransom and Alice (Campion) Boyle. He graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN, in 1957. After high school, he moved to Minneapolis briefly to pursue post-secondary business classes but soon came to realize that life on the farm was what he wanted. In 1963, he purchased his farm only 1.5 miles from his parents’ farm near Dorothy, MN. He was employed for many years at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston, MN. Later, he worked at Homark Home Manufacturing and then at Red Lake Falls School District.

Gene met Sally Case in Fosston, MN, while attending an area Christian singles group. The couple was united in marriage on August 1, 1981, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, MN. From this marriage, two children were born, Holly Lynn and Dustin Eugene. They were faithful members of the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. They made their home on the farm until 2022, when they moved to East Grand Forks, MN, due to health issues.

Gene loved his country life and his family. He loved farming and working with his hands. He was a caretaker of many types of animals over the years, a companion to many faithful dogs. He enjoyed carving diamond willow together with his dad, Ranny, trapping gophers with his son Dusty, spending time with his daughter Holly, fixing things on the farm with his cousin Jeff, and hunting deer with his family. Early in his life, he loved participating in league bowling. He and Sally loved watching sports played, especially by their kids, grandkids, and younger cousins. He enjoyed watching car racing and NFL football and listening to the radio.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sally, daughter, Holly (Gary) Blilie of Grand Forks, ND, son, Dustin (Lisa) of East Grand Forks, MN, grandchildren, Oscar Blilie, Harper Boyle, and Liv Boyle, and cousin, Jeff (Jody) Kenfield who was more like a brother than a cousin, along with many other cousins, nieces, nephew, and friends.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Ransom and Alice Boyle.

Gene will be deeply missed. May memories of him be held close to the hearts of those who loved him.
