FERTILE DROPS LOSER-OUT GAME TO ADA IN NORTHWEST NORTH SUB-STATE TOURNAMENT

The Fertile Post 238 ran into incredibly tough pitching, and also committed four errors, which made the difference in a 5-0 loss at the hands of Ada in a loser-out game in the Northwest North Sub-state tournament first-round playoff game in Ada. The game aired on KROX Radio. 

FIRST INNING- Fertile got two early baserunners after an error and a single by Teagan Johnson, but Ada Pitcher Brennen Fetting was able to work out of the jam.

Ada started out by applying pressure quickly, with two base hits and a walk to load the bases. However, Fertile pitcher Kolby Hemmah recorded a strikeout and groundout to leave the bases loaded.

SECOND INNING- Ada pitcher Brennen Fetting gathered his first two strikeouts of the game, retiring Fertile, who stranded their third baserunner in two innings after DH Oistad reached on an error.

Ada was sent down quicker in this inning, stranding Gilbertson at first after a 1-out hit by pitch.

THIRD INNING- Fertile could not capitalize on a 2-out single by Caleb Sather, stranding hi,m on first base while Fetting increased his strikeout total to three.

Ada was first to score in this one. Ames Fassino led off, and reached on an error. Odden followed with a base hit, and an error was committed when Bueng came up to the plate, resulting in a run for Ada. Two subsequent groundouts ended the rally with no further damage.

FOURTH INNING-Though 3B Petry for Fertile led off the inning with a sharply hit single to left field, Fetting retired the next three batters, including increasing his strikeout total to four.

For Ada, after Nelson led off with a base hit, Cade Kuball was hit by a pitch. The next batter, Brennen Fetting, helped his own cause, driving in a run with a single to left, making it 2-0. Fassino looked to add to the rally, but he lined out to third, and Kuball was picked off at second for a double play.

FIFTH INNING- Fertile once again went down quickly, stranding Steven Sather for the second time after a two-out base hit.

Ada powered through for their best inning of the game in the 5th. They scored three runs, two of which were driven in by 1B Cannon Anderson. The last one was driven in by Kuball. Ada recorded three hits and a walk, while also capitalizing on a throwing error by new 3B Teagan Johnson, and walked away from the 5th inning with a 5-0 lead.

SIXTH INNING- Fertile began what looked like a rally in the 5th, leading off the inning with a single and a hit by pitch, but after Kolby Hemmah lined a base hit into centerfield, Ada CF Odden made a fantastic throw to third to get the force play. The next two batters were retired by strikeout, bringing Fetting’s total to 6.

For Ada, although Ames Fassino lead off the inning with a double, their next three batters were all retired at the hands of new arm Bryer Strem.

SEVENTH INNING- For the first and only time, Fertile was retired 1-2-3, including a strikeout, bringing Fetting’s final total to 7.

As a result of this game, Ada moves on to Sunday, where they play at 11:30 AM. Their current opponent is TBD. For Fertile, this loss eliminates them for the remainder of the tournament.
