FF HILLCREST ACADEMY GIRL’S BASKETBALL STARTS FAST AND SHOOTS THEIR WAY TO 67-35 WIN OVER SACRED HEART

The Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy Comets Girl’s Basketball team got off to a fast start and never looked back in a 67-35 win over the Sacred Heart Eagles at the Sacred Heart Holiday Tournament on Tuesday night.

FIRST HALF –
It was all Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy from the very start of the game. The Comets came out of the gates using their speed and athleticism while firing on all cylinders to take a 16-1 lead and force an Eagles timeout with 11:50 left in the half. Sacred Heart would temporarily delay the run with back-to-back buckets from eighth-grader Alexis Lawrence, but the Comets would respond by creating more steals and getting easy transition scores to take a 32-6 lead and force another Eagles timeout with 7:09 remaining in the first half. The Comets continued to extend the lead knocking down three-pointers and forcing Sacred Heart into difficult shots. The Eagles got a little momentum at the end of the half with a couple of baskets from Izzy Cwikla and Lydia Riskey, but it would be Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy taking a 50-14 lead into the halftime break. The Comets hit six three-pointers in the opening half and were led by Madison Ballweg who had 16 points. Five different Eagles scored in the first half with Alexis Lawrence leading the way with 5 points.

SECOND HALF –
The defenses both came out strong and that limited the scoring to start the second half. Eventually, Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy would knock down some shots to take a 61-22 lead, which would also lead to running time for the remaining nine minutes of the game. Sacred Heart would end up outscoring the Comets in the second half 21-17 and a big reason was the play of Lydia Riskey, as she would finish the game with 13 points. Even with being able to outscore the Comets in the second half, the damage from the first half was too much and Fergus Falls Hillcrest Academy would win the game 67-35.

Sacred Heart falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss. FF Hillcrest Academy improves to 5-2 with the win.
