ROSEAU GIRL’S BASKETBALL USES 20-0 RUN ON THIER WAY TO 87-50 WIN OVER CLIMAX-FISHER

The Roseau Rams Girl’s Basketball team used a 20-0 run to help propel themselves to an 87-50 win over the Climax-Fisher Knights at the Sacred Heart Holiday Tournament Tuesday night.

FIRST HALF –
The start of the game featured plenty of scoring as both teams created steals from pressing that led to easy buckets. The score was tied 7-7 early on but a 6-0 Rams run forced a Knights timeout with Roseau in front 13-7 with 14:36 left in the first half. After another Roseau layup, Peyton Hoffman would hit her second three of the first half to make it 15-10. The two teams would trade baskets and the Rams would then explode going on a 20-0 run to take a commanding 37-12 lead with 7:27 left in the half. The Knights continued to struggle with turnovers allowing easy buckets in transition for the Rams. Halle Reitmeier would end the run with a layup, and after another Climax-Fisher score, it was 37-16. That would be as close as the Knights would get the rest of the half, as Roseau continued to get easy scores inside from steals and offensive rebounds, and they would take a 49-24 lead into the halftime break. Leading the way for Roseau was Kayla Bachleitner with 19 first half points. Peyton Hoffman led Climax-Fisher with 14 herself.

SECOND HALF –
The Knights got a little bit of a spark early in the second half with a three from Lucy Paulsrud, and a layup from Kadence Korynta, but Roseau continued to get easy transition buckets themselves to stay in front 60-31 with 14:35 left to play. Over the course of the next two minutes, the Knights would outscore the Rams 8-5 thanks to excellent free-throw shooting and a jumper from Halle Reitmeier. The Rams would then take a timeout in front 65-39 with 12:22 remaining. The Knights would get the lead down to 24 points, but the Rams would counter going on a 12-2 run to take a 77-43 lead forcing another Knights timeout. After another Rams layup, the rest of the game would be played with running time per Minnesota State High School League Rules as they took a lead by more than 35 points. Each team would get some new players in for the final eight minutes, and Roseau would end up hanging on to win the game 87-50. Roseau senior Kayla Bachleitner poured in 32 points and Climax-Fisher seventh-grader Peyton Hoffman had 21 points in the loss.

Climax-Fisher falls to 3-5 on the season with the loss. Roseau improves to 6-4 with the win.
