FIGHT AT CARE AND SHARE RESULTS IN ONE DEAD AFTER OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

On Sunday, June 30, at approximately 11:46 p.m., officers from the Crookston Police Department were dispatched to a fight in progress at the Care and Share homeless shelter located at 220 East 3rd Street in Crookston. Upon arrival, officers located a man inside the Care and Share who was being combative toward officers and was not following officers’ verbal commands. Less lethal means were deployed before an officer fired their department handgun, striking the suspect. Officers provided life-saving care, but the man was pronounced deceased on the scene. The Crookston Police Department has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate this incident.

This is an ongoing active criminal investigation and no further details will be released at this time. This is an isolated incident, and there is no concern for public safety.

The Crookston Police Department was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, East Grand Forks Police Department, and Crookston Area Ambulance.
